A contemporary fireplace conversion

This fireplace installation in Ottershaw, Chertsey utterly transformed an old fashioned and rather gloomy inglenook fireplace into a clean contemporary centrepiece.

Sometimes it takes a big leap of faith to make a dramatic change to your living room.

Luckily for us this client in Ottershaw, near Chertsey in Surrey, had the vision to make a really stunning change to their home.

The brief was to brighten up and simplify their existing fireplace which dominated the living room.

We proposed replacing the old fashioned brick wall with a new inset gas fire, a space above for a new flat screen television and some glass shelving.

We love interesting and custom fireplace builds. If you have a challenging fireplace project then we’d love to hear from you.

First of all we removed the existing fireplace and the wooden supporting beam.

A new steel lintel was installed onto padstones, while the wall was secured using acrow props.

We then installed the new Dru 130 contemporary gas fire unit into the old inglenook space.

The fireplace was then filled in using a steel frame and fireproof boards and plastered over.

A space for a flatscreen television was included in the new wall as well as space for shelving units. These were also lit from above using LED lighting.
